One thousand people will soon be able to feel fresh and clean thanks to Huntsville and national Rotary members that spent the day packaging shower kits for people in need.
Madeline King appreciates the feeling of a nice, warm shower. She knows it's hard to come by in the unhoused community. So, as the president of the , she brought hundreds of Rotarians together to make shower kits.
"When you start your day clean and fresh, you feel like your best self ready to take on the day," King said.
The nonprofit will then give each bright blue bag packed full of sanitary essentials to someone in need.
The organization's Huntsville Coordinator, Heather Slaughter, says they've given more than 4,500 showers this year, and more than 50,000 nationwide since 2016.
"We go through them really fast, and we never want to not have them to give to someone," Slaughter explained.
Their mission statement promises they "Shower grace, hope, and love," but that mission wouldn't be possible without volunteers like King and the Rotary club.
"Providing service above ourselves and helping those who can't help themselves," King said.
Slaughter says this was the biggest hygiene kit donation they've ever received.
